Janice
The stop-smoking TV ads that feature real people (as opposed to sad and desperate actors) like Janice, who are suffering from smoking-induced diseases, are seriously spoiling my evening leisure hours. I can barely get through an edition of How Clean is Your House, Location, Location, Location or Property Ladder without being reminded that my filthy habit is likely to cost me a good deal more in the long-term than £5 for twenty fags.
Now a group of doctors have weighed in, saying smoking should be banned in all public places, including pubs and restaurants. They believe this would lead to around 300,000 people packing in.
I am gearing myself up for another attempt to quit and would welcome any suggestions about how to go about it. If, however, your suggestion involves any of the following, please be aware I have already tried them and they didn't work.
* Patches
* Hypnotherapy
* Cold Turkey
* Cigars/pipes
* Cutting down gradually
* Stopping suddenly
* Hallucinogenic narcotics
* Cold baths
* Acupuncture
* Herbal remedies
* Will power
* Just having the occasional spliff
The young girl whose father died of cancer in the anti-smoking advert was an actress.
She was in a different advert later on advertising a different product.
Don't know how many others were actors/actresses.
